    I have been using Exelearning for quite a while to make some training and instruction material for pupils of primary schools, mainly in its Dutch language version, as these pupils are all Dutch speaking.I’d like to slightly change the text of some of the messages/buttons used. In iDevice Cloze e.g. the button “Submit” is shown with the message “Verzenden” (= send). As this sometimes confuses the pupils, and even more their parents (because they think they are really sending stuff to someone, instead of just checking the answer) I would like to change this into “Controleren” (“Check” or “Verify”) or something like that.<br />I haven’t found how to do that. I did change the text in the text file /exelib/locale/nl/LC_MESSAGES/exe.po , but this clearly is not the way to do it.  Although the file does show the alteration, in the end the message “Verzenden” keeps popping up.Any suggestions, or is this simply out of my league? I do know a bit about HTML and CSS, but I am mostly a software user, not a software engineer.

    Hi,
    There’s no easy way to change that text editing eXe’s files, because the text is a compiled file. You’ll have to edit the PO file and generate a new MO.
    But you can change it in your elp. See the attachment. The code you need for that is in Advanced mode – Properties tab – Footer.

    Thank you very much. Of course this requires adjusting all Cloze-activities inserted in a package, but I can live with that. <br />I suppose in a similar way other button messages can be altered as well? BTW you mention editing the PO file (which is something I might do, after all it’s just editing a flat text file) and then generating a new MO file. Is the latter more technically demanding? And does it require specific software?As you may notice, working with eXe is not the problem. Actually I have been using it since its first “original” version (from New Zealand) and have had quite some interesting results with it. In those days I taught secondary school pupils. After my retirement I have been helping out at primary school level and there things (and messages) sometimes have to be simplified. That’s why I am looking at changing some messages.

    Addendum. Just checked out your solution and it turns out to be more comprehensive than I thought or understood at first: adding the extra lines actually changes the message for every Close activity in the entire eXeE lesson pack. So just one change necessary for ever eXe pack, which is really a small trouble to get to this result. Thanks again. I’m only just getting to understand the internal workings of eXe, but that’s intriguing as well.

      That’s it! Just one change per elp. You can also include that line in the JS file of your Style, and you won’t have to do it anymore. I’m glad to know that it works 🙂

    Update. After some research I found out editing PO files and creating the corresponding MO file iturns out to be rather straightforward and hardly demanding. Using POedit and/or EazyPO I have been able to correct (e.g. a number of typos) and edit the existing PO file and generate the new MO file. Surprisingly I then met with new and unexpected issues. I.e. some of the corrections showed up when using eXe, whereas others were simply not embedded. Example: I translated some elements (“Available iDevices”, and “Advanced mode” etc) to Dutch, thus making it easier for some colleagues who tend to be startled by anything English to work with eXe. Although these entries are found both in the PO file and the corresponding MO file, they are not used by eXe. It keeps using the unchanged messages. Queer.

      You’ll have to modify this file too: scripts/i18n/nl.js
      Notice that editing those files you might be changing that text in other parts of the application too. “Verzenden” was the translation for “Submit”. “Controleren” will replace all those “Verzenden”, not only that button text (I didn’t check where’s that string). But that’s how it works: There’s a PO file, and a SCRIPT (in eXe’s source code) to generate the new MO and JS files after translating.
