Why does Exe split each page into a SCO?

I realise that the whole philosophy of SCORM was that the LMS should control the navigation between SCOs. That’s fine.

However, I’m not sure I understand why the team has decided that each Exe page should be a separate SCO? That makes Exe different to every authoring tool I know, where the navigation inside the SCO is handled by the SCO itself.

I am testing Exe with Moodle, and was expecting to see a package that is virtually identical to the website export, but just with an imsmanifest.xml file and the SCORM run-time code.

Instead, I’m reliant on the SCORM navigation provided by Moodle (which is pretty poor). Please see Dan Marsden’s response in this Moodle forum post about SCORM navigation.

  Thanks for the suggestion.
  That decision was made years ago by the original developers (https://exelearning.org/).
  The current team has talked several times about using single SCO. We just didn’t do if for the moment because there are other important issues (like upgrading to Python 3 or using another language) and because eXe’s iDevices are seen as self-evaluation activities.
  But single SCO will be really interesting! Please tell us if you can help with that. Any help is welcome!

  I’m afraid my Python skills are too limited to be able to help on the coding.
  
  I’d be happy to help with any testing, documentation or marketing though.
  
  At the moment, for me, with Exelearning’s reliance on the LMS for navigation, I can’t use it within my organisation to generate SCORM packages. I can maybe just use the web page output instead, but then we lose all the tracking information.
  
  I’ll keep an eye on how things go – but let me know how I can help in non-coding ways.

  Testing and suggesting helps a lot.
  
  We’ll talk again about Single SCO. It’s clear that it’s a better solution.
